Reston, James (Barrett) “Scotty”(1909– ) journalist; born in Clydebank, Scotland. Joining the New York Times Washington bureau in 1939, he became an outstanding reporter and political analyst, winning two Pulitzer Prizes (1945, 1957). In the 1960s he became associate and then executive editor of the Times, while also writing a regular column.
