In the southeastern corner of NE, southeast of Lincoln; original county; organized Mar 7, 1855 (prior to statehood). Name Origin: For Maj. William A. Richardson (1811-75), officer in the Mexican-American War, U.S. senator from IL (1863-65), and governor of NE Territory (1858)
