Royal Stars (Watchers of the Heavens)

(religion, spiritualism, and occult)

The ancients referred to the stars through which the Sun passed during the equinoxes and the solstices as the royal stars. In the third millennium b.c.e., these were Aldebaran (the Watcher of the East, spring), Regulus (the Watcher of the North, summer), Antares (the Watcher of the West, fall), and Formalhaut (the Watcher of the South, winter). Because of the precession of equinoxes, these four stars no longer mark the beginning of the seasons.
