C27H32O16 A hydroxyflavone glucorhamnoside derived from cowslip and other plants; yellow needles melting at 190°C; used to treat capillary disorders.

Rutin

 

(also quercetin-3-rutinoside), an organic compound of the flavonoid group. Its molecule is formed of the flavone quer-cetin and the disaccharide rutinose. Rutin is contained in tea leaves and the leaves of the common rue; it is also contained in buckwheat and other plants. The compound possesses vitamin activity; it regulates the permeability of the capillaries. Rutin is used as a medicinal preparation, often together with ascorbic acid.

The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR analyses, together with ESI-MS data and comparison with relevant literature data: isoquercetin (1), (21) rutin (2), (21,22) afzelin (3), (23) astragalin (4), (21,24) isorhamnetin 3-O-[beta]-glucopyranoside (5), (25) nicotiflorin (6), (21,22) and narcissoside (7).

Rutin possesses several pharmacological activities such as reducing oxidative stress, prevent neuroinflammation (7), anti-diabetic (8), aiding to reduce neurodegeneration (9), cardioprotective activity (10), wound healing activity (11), radioprotective activity (12,13), nephroprotective activity (14), hepatoprotective activity (15), antiplasmodial activity (16), antiarthritic activity (17), antiviral activity (18), improved endothelial functions (19) and antinociceptive activities (20).
Previous studies have reported abundant phenolic compounds in Sophorae Radix, such as rutin, quercetin, kaempferol, kurarinol, and maackiain [13, 28-30].
