SAO Star Catalog

SAO Star Catalog

A general whole-sky catalog issued by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Washington, in 1966. It lists positions and proper motions of 258 997 stars usually down to a limiting magnitude of 9 (epoch 1950.0), there being a uniform number of stars for each area of sky. An associated and highly accurate computer-plotted Star Atlas was published in 1968.
