Sabirabad

 

a city (since 1935) and administrative center of Sabirabad Raion, Azerbaijan SSR. Landing on the right bank of the Kura River, at the influx of the Araks River. Linked by a railroad branch line (8 km) with the Baku-Yerevan line. Sabirabad has a cotton-ginning and a milk plant and a plant for the production of reinforced-concrete items. The city was named in honor of the Azerbaijan poet Sabir.
