Sais

(now Sa al-Hajar), a city in ancient Egypt in the western part of the Delta. It was the center of the cult of the warrior goddess Neith. Sais was mentioned in the earliest texts of the Ancient Kingdom (c. 2800–2250 B.C.). It was the capital of pharaons of the 26th Dynasty, starting with Psamtik I; the period of their rule (663–525 B.C.) was named the Saite Era. The House of Life, a higher school of medicine, was located in Sais.
