San Francisco de Macorís

(săn frănsĭs`kō thā mäkōrēs`), city (1993 pop. 96,503), N Dominican Republic. It is the commercial and processing center for an agricultural region. Its port is Sanchez.

San Francisco de Macorís

 

a city in the northern Dominican Republic; capital of the province of Duarte. Population, 35,900 (1969). San Francisco de Macorís has a railroad station. It is the commercial center of an agricultural region known for the cultivation of cacao, coffee, sugarcane, fruits, and rice and for the raising of livestock. It produces sugar and lumber.
