San Pedro de Macorís

(sän pā`ththā mäkōrēs`), city (1993 pop. 123,987), SE Dominican Republic, on the Caribbean Sea at the mouth of the Higuamo River. It is the nation's leading sugar port. Textiles and alcohol are produced there.

a city in the southeastern part of the Dominican Republic. Population, 22,600 (1969). San Pedro de Macorís is the capital of the province of San Pedro de Macorís. A port on the Caribbean Sea, it exports sugar, tobacco products, and leather. The city produces sugar and tobacco products and has a large chemical fertilizer plant.
