On the east-central coast of MI bordered on the east by Lake Huron; established Sep 10, 1822 (prior to statehood). Name Origin: For the Wyandot chief who is the main character in Henry Whiting's poem "Sannilac." The name was spelled with only one 'n' in the proclamation by Gov. Lewis Cass (1782-1866) that announced the formation of the county
