Santo André

(sän`to͝o ändrĕ`), city (1996 pop. 625,294), São Paulo state, S Brazil, a suburb of São Paulo. The city houses the offices of many international firms and has industries that produce textiles, metal products, porcelain, foodstuffs, furniture, and airplanes.

Santo André has a railroad station. Industry includes ferrous metallurgy, the production of chemicals, and machine building. The city was founded in the 16th century.
