Sanzar

 

(also Guralash, Kly), a river in Dzhizak Oblast, Uzbek SSR. The Sanzar measures 198 km long and drains an area of 2,530 sq km, not including its irrigation network. It originates on a northern slope of the Turkestan range and empties into Lake Tuzkan, a closed lake, at the western edge of the Golodnaia Steppe. It is fed primarily by snow. High water is from late March to early July. The mean flow rate is 2.12 cu m per sec measured 158 km from the mouth and approximately 4 cu m per sec measured above the irrigation network. The Sanzar is fed by water from the Zeravshan River via the Iskitiuiatartar Canal. The Iuzhnaia Golodnaia Steppe Canal empties into the Sanzar below the Dzhizak Oasis. The Sanzar is used for irrigation.
