(Sarera), a gulf of the Pacific Ocean along the northwest coast of New Guinea. It extends 305 km into the land, with a width of 450 km at its entrance into the ocean. Its maximum depth is 1,627 m. In the south are coral reefs. Islands at its entrance include Japen, Biak, and Supiori. The eastern shore is flat and the western, mountainous. It has irregular 12-hour tides, with a height of about 2.5 m. There are many settlements on the shores of the bay.
