a cutting or a corymb having a bud from a cultivated variety that is grafted to another plant (the stock). The growth that results from the joining of scion and stock is called a graft. In fruit growing, the cuttings are obtained from a special section of fruit trees at a nursery or in a commercial orchard. The quality of a scion is determined by the condition of the tree from which it is obtained. The tree should be healthy, productive, and resistant to unfavorable conditions. The quality of the scion is also affected by storage conditions.
