Scott, W. (William) Richard

(1932–  ) sociologist; born in Parsons, Kans. He taught at Stanford University (1960), where he directed the Center for Organizations Research (1988). His many books on organizations include Organizations: Rational, Natural and Open Systems (1981, revised 1987) and Organizational Environments: Ritual and Rationality (coauthored, 1983).
