She

a nationality of China. The She, who inhabit the provinces of Fukien, Chekiang, and Kwangtung, belong to the aboriginal population of South China. According to a 1975 estimate, they number 300,000. Related linguistically to the Yao, they have no writing system. The She have been sinicized to a great extent and often speak Chinese even among themselves. They have retained animist beliefs. The She engage chiefly in the cultivation of rice on paddies; handicrafts are highly developed among them.
