Shiffrin, Mikaela Pauline
Shiffrin, Mikaela Pauline,1995–, American skier, b. Vail, Colo. She competed in her first World Cup Alpine event, giant slalom, in 2011, and that same year won the slalom title at the U.S. National Championships. The 2012 International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine World Cup rookie of the year, the slalom specialist has won four slalom golds (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019) and a super-G gold (2019) at the world championships, and won six World Cup slalom titles (2013–15, 2017–19),three World Cup overall titles (2017–19), and one World Cup super-G title (2019). In the 2018–19 season, she set a record (15) for most World Cup races won. She is the youngest athlete to win gold (2014) in the slalom at the Winter Olympics; in 2018 she won Olumpic gold in the giant slalom and silver in the alpine combined.
