Shoe Last
a device for giving the shoe the required shape and for maintaining the shape during the manufacturing process. Tightening lasts shape and secure the semifinished products, ironing lasts flatten the soles, and finishing lasts hold the shoe while the uppers are finished. Lasts are made from wood, metal, and plastic. Metal lasts are used in vulcanizing the shoe bottom and for shaping.
