In south-central MN, southwest of Minneapolis; established Mar 5, 1853 (prior to statehood) from unorganized lands. Name Origin: For Henry Hastings Sibley (1811-91), delegate to the U.S. Congress from WI territory (1848-49) and from MN Territory (1849-53), and first governor of MN (1858-60)
