Skövde
(sköv`də), city (1990 pop. 30,540), Skaraborg co., S Sweden, midway between lakes Vänern and Vättern. During the Middle Ages many pilgrims visited the shrine of St. Elin (Helen) of Skövde, a local woman canonized in 1164. Skövde
a city in Sweden, in the län (county) of Skaraborg, between Lakes Vänern and Vättern. Population, 45,400 (1976). Skövde has an engine-building industry (a plant of the Volvo firm) and a clothing industry. Uranium is mined near Skövde at the Ramstad Mine.
