Smoholla(?1815–1907) Wanapum religious leader; born on the upper Columbia River in present-day Washington. His beliefs that a return to traditional Indian truths would cause the world to revert to a pristine state formed the basis of the "Washani" or "Dreamer Religion" of the Northwest Indians.
