Solar orientation

The placement of a building in relation to the sun to maximize the amount of heat gained during the coldest months and minimize the amount of heat gained during the warmest months. Sun charts and software assist in orienting a building for maximum solar benefit.

The placing of a building in relation to the sun; depending on the geographical area, the building may be oriented to maximize the amount of heat gained from solar radiation during the coldest months, or it may be oriented to minimize the amount of heat gained in the warmest months.
