Somkhiti

 

a historical region in eastern Georgia, located in southern Kartli. In the 16th century, Somkhiti became part of the Kartli Kingdom. In accordance with a peace treaty between Iran and Turkey signed in 1555, Somkhiti came under the power of Iran. In 1801, along with all of eastern Georgia, it became part of the Russian Empire.
