Sovetskaia Karakalpakiia

 

(Soviet Kara-Kalpakia), a republic-wide Russian-language newspaper of the Kara-Kalpak ASSR. Sovetskaia Karakalpakiia is the successor to the newspaper Izvestiia Amudar’inskogo ispolnitel’nogo komiteta (News of the Amu Darya Executive Committee), which was founded in 1919. The newspaper was renamed several times and assumed its present name in 1931. It was published in Turtkul’ until 1941, when it was transferred to Nukus. It is published three times a week. Circulation, 12,000 (1975). Sovetskaia Karakalpakiia was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor in 1970.
