(Soviet Photo), a monthly illustrated magazine of the Journalists’ Union of the USSR. Sovetskoe foto has been published in Moscow since 1926, except for the period 1942–56, when publication was interrupted.
The magazine reflects life in the USSR through photographs and deals with the development of Soviet photography and the theory and practice of photography. It also acquaints its readers with the history of photography and the work of Soviet and foreign photographers. The magazine is intended for amateur photographers and film-makers, as well as for professional photographers. Circulation, 240,000 (1976).
