Sparmannia

 

a genus of plants of the family Tiliaceae. The plants include trees and shrubs. The branches and leaves are covered with a soft and stellate pubescence. The cordate leaves are somewhat angular or lobed. The white flowers have four sepals and four petals and are in umbels. The fruit is a capsule covered with prickly hairs. There are seven species, distributed in southern Africa and on Madagascar. The species S. africana is raised in greenhouses and as a houseplant.
