Spitz, Mark

(1950–  ) swimmer; born in Modesto, Calif. He won a record seven gold medals at the 1972 Munich Games, dominating a single Olympiad as no athlete ever before. After retiring from competition, he became a sports commentator and enjoyed many product endorsements. He tried to make a comeback for the 1992 Olympics, but failed to make the team.
