Spreckelsen, Johan Otto von(1929–1987)
Danish architect, who used pure forms in his work, such as the cylinder and sphere. He was (with Paul Andrew) winner of the competition for the design of the Grande Arche de la Défense (illus.), Paris, France (1983), a huge trapezoidal structure with a hollow center, which terminates the axis that runs from the Tuileries Gardens in the east through the Arc de Triomphe to La Défense.
