town (1990 pop. 6,695), Routt co., NW Colo., on the Yampa River, just W of the Park Range; founded 1875, inc. 1907. It is a resort and skiing center, with ranching, farming, and light manufacturing. There are hot mineral springs and coal mines in the area. Steamboat Springs is the headquarters of nearby Routt National Forest.
