Sudmaliņas

 

(from Latvian sudmalas [“windmill”]), a Latvian folk dance in 2/4 time. The dance is performed by eight couples, who create various patterns resembling a rotating star. The basic movement is the polka step. The sudmaliņas is danced in a lively, gay manner.
