Excitation systems with high gain and fast response times greatly aid transient stability (synchronizing torque), but can also reduce small signal stability (damping torque).
where [k.sub.s] is the synchronizing torque coefficient, [k.sub.d] is the electromagnetic damping torque coefficient.
