Tachanka

a spring cart with an open lightweight body drawn by a pair of horses; it was used by the cavalry during the Civil War of 1918–20 as a mobile firing platform for a heavy machine gun. The tachanka carried a machine-gun crew of two, the gun-layer and an assistant, and a driver who doubled as a reserve gun-layer. Tachanki drawn by teams of three or four horses were also used. Machine-gun tachanki were effective weapons in mobile operations in the Civil War.
