Tacna,

city (1993 pop. 115,633), capital of Tacna dept., S Peru, on the Río Caplina. Tacna is an agricultural center that produces tobacco, grapes, cotton, and sugarcane. It is on the Pan-American Highway and has rail and air links to other cities. Originally populated by Aymara Native Americans, the region was explored by Spaniards in the 16th cent.

Tacna

 

a city in southern Peru, capital of Tacna Department. Situated in the Tacna River valley, on the Pan American Highway. Railroad station. Population, 55,800 (1972). Tacna is the center of an agricultural region that produces cotton, grains, and fruits. Raw agricultural materials are processed. Tacna also has copper mining.
