a city in South Korea and capital of Chungchongnamdo Province. Population, 415,000 (1970). Taejon is a railroad junction on the Seoul-Pusan main line. It is an important center for the production of paper, silk, and cotton cloth. Other industries include food processing and machine building. Tungsten is mined nearby.
