(or T’aihsien), a city in eastern China, in Kiangsu Province. Population, 159,800 (1953). T’aichou is a port on the T’ungyang Canal. It has cotton-textile, silk, sugar, flour-milling, and vegetable-oil extraction industries, as well as tea processing, rice hulling, and production of pigskin and bristles.
