Telšiai

 

a city and administrative center of Telšiai Raion, Lithuanian SSR. Situated on the northern shore of Lake Mastis. Railroad station on the Kretinga-Šiauliai line. Population, 23,000 (1974). Telšiai has a knitwear factory, a calculator plant, a butter factory, an enterprise for the production of construction materials, and a fruit and vegetable cannery. The city also has a technicum of applied art, a museum of local lore, and a people’s amateur theater.
