Tesha

a river in Gorky Oblast, RSFSR; a right tributary of the Oka River. The Tesha is 311 km long and drains an area of 7,800 sq km. It rises and flows in the Volga Upland; the lower Tesha flows in the Oka-Tesha Depression. Karst is developed in the river basin. The Tesha is fed primarily by snow. The mean flow rate 230 km from the mouth is approximately 4 cu m per sec. The river freezes in November or the first half of December and opens up in the second half of March or the first half of April. Its largest tributary is the Serezha, on the right. The river is used for floating timber, and there is local navigation on the lower Tesha. The city of Arzamas is situated on the Tesha.
