big crunch(redirected from The Big Crunch)

big crunchThe time reversal of the Big Bang in which space–time collapses to a singularity. As the big crunch approaches galaxies would start to merge and the temperature associated with the background radiation would increase. The big crunch will occur at the end of time if there is enough mass in the Universe to make it closed. It is currently thought that this is not the case.
