Titov Veles

 

(until 1952, Veles), a city in Yugoslavia, in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia; situated in the Vardar River valley. Population, 39,000 (1973). A transportation junction, Titov Veles has enterprises of the metalworking, porcelain and ceramics, textile (silk and wool), and food-processing industries. Between 1941 and 1944, during World War II, the city was one of the main centers of the national liberation struggle in the Vardar region of Macedonia.

Other major producers include Povardarie in nearby Negotino and Lozar in the town of Titov Veles.
Good production results were reported from the Titov Veles lead and zinc smelter works in Macedonia.
It is very important that the Macedonian films Mothers directed by Milcho Manchevski and I Am From Titov Veles and How I Killed a Saint directed by Teona Mitevska were financially supported exactly by these funds, Kanceska-Milevska said.
Within the framework of the event, the US audience had the opportunity to see the works of Zaneta Vangeli, Tome Adzievski, Reshat Ahmeti, Jovan Sumkovski, Antoni Maznevski and Blagoja Maznevski, and also to see, within the framework of the Macedonian film festival, the films "I Am From Titov Veles", "Contact", "The Big Water", "Bal-kan-kan", "Dust", "Happy New Year, 1949", "Black Seed", "Illusion" and "Upside Down".
Two other titles from Eastern Europe that will get an airing during the 58th edition of the Berlinale are Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska's third film "I am from Titov Veles"and Polish master Andrzej Wajda's "Katyn" (Official Selection Out of Competition.)
