Tlumach

 

a city (since 1939) and administrative center of Tlumach Raion, Ivano-Frankovsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR; located 25 km from the city of Ivano-Frankovsk, with which it is connected by a bus line. Tlumach has a mixed feed plant and an agricultural bookkeeping technicum. Some of the city’s inhabitants work at enterprises in Ivano-Frankovsk.

In May 1896, he resided in Tlumach, and in September and October 1898, he was stationed in Chortkiv.
In the next letter that Hofmannsthal wrote to Andrian from Tlumach, dated 20 May 1896, Hofmannsthal seems to foreshadow elements in another of his canonical works, the story "Reitergeschichte" (1899).
As in his earlier letter from Tlumach (64-65), Hofmannsthal finds great comfort in the manifold literature he has ample time to read in his cavalry barracks in Chortkiv.
