Toquepala

 

a settlement in Peru, in Tacna Department. Industries include the mining and dressing of copper ore. Copper from Toquepala is smelted in the city of Ilo.

* Copper production increased 16.5% to 256,352 tons in 2Q19 compared with 2Q18 due to higher production at our Peruvian Toquepala mine (+67.6%) and our Buenavista mine (+11.4%) in Mexico.
As for Peru, the start of operations of the Toquepala expansion supported the increase in production, which was 29.5% greater than in the same period a year earlier.
Investments include the Toquepala expansion project, increasing copper output by 100,000 tons to up to 245,000 tons in 2019, and its greenfield Tia Maria project at 120,000 tons of production, which has been delayed for a number of years due to resistance to the project.

Silver mine production increased by 3.9% in 1Q18 when compared with 1Q17, mainly as result of higher production at the Buenavista and La Caridad mines, partially offset by lower production at the IMMSA and Toquepala mines.
A representative of Southern Copper Corp said there were no reports of damage at its Cuajone and Toquepala mines in the regions of Moguegua and Tacna.
