Tubular Bells

a percussion instrument. A set of 12–18 pipes-cylinders (brass, nickel, or chrome-plated) freely suspended in a metal or wooden frame, it has a determined pitch and a compass of one to 1½ octaves. The sound is produced by the blow of a small hammer (a beater with a barrel-shaped leather-covered head). The tubular bells are used in orchestras to imitate the sound of bells.
