Tudor, Frederic

(1783–1864) businessman; born in Boston, Mass. He developed and pursued the practice of sending cargoes of ice from Boston to the tropical ports of Havana, Charleston, New Orleans, and eventually Calcutta, India (1833). Known as the "Ice King," he prospered and became a leading citizen in Boston.
