Tugun

 

(Coregonus tugun), a freshwater fish. The tugun measures approximately 20 cm in length and weighs approximately 90 g. It lives in small schools in Siberian rivers from the Ob’ to the lana. It is known in the Ob’ region as the manerka or Sos’va herring. It is rarely found in lakes. The tugun spawns in autumn, on a sandy bottom, at an approximate depth of 1.5 m. It reaches sexual maturity in the second year of life. It lays 1,500–6,000 eggs. The fish feeds on planktonic crustaceans and insect larvae. It lives up to six years. The tugun is fished commercially.
