Tunkinskie Gol’tsy

 

a mountain range of the Vostochnyi Saian in the western part of the Buriat ASSR. The range is about 180 km long, and the maximum elevation is 3,266 m. The mountains are composed primarily of schists and granites. Most of the range consists of extremely rugged mountains of medium height. Alpine relief occurs below the crest line. Larch and cedar-larch mountain taiga is found on the slopes up to an elevation of 1,800–2,000 m. Alpine tundra vegetation grows at higher elevations.
