Turning Movement

a troop maneuver carried out in an attack for the purpose of striking the enemy from the rear.

The turning movement is implemented in coordination with troops operating from the front. A turning movement may occur when there are open flanks and significant gaps in the enemy defense and also where breaches have been made by various types of weapons. Where there are no open flanks and gaps in the enemy defense, the turning movement is carried out after a break through a solid front of defense. In combat in high mountain regions, the turning movement is carried out by specially trained and equipped subunits.
