ucp

(Universal Communication Platform AG, Lugano, Switzerland) A software company that specialized in mobile phone services, founded in 1999 by Christian Lutz and Marwan Saba. Its offerings included SMS voting and mobile marketing tools, photo messaging platforms and custom applications for SMS, MMS, Java and GPRS. It ended up disbanding and its business assets reverted to the three daughter companies that originally spawned it. Additionally, curcumin increases energy expenditure in mouse models, either by facilitating white adipose tissue "browning," or by stimulating brown adipocyte UCP1 expression, dissociated from its anti-inflammation functions.

Genipin is a chemical compound extracted from the gardenia plant,[35] which could suppress UCP2 lead renal fibrosis properties by inhibiting the expression and activity of UCP2 and decrease reactive oxygen with the advantage that UCP1, 3, 4, and 5 unaffected.[36]
These mice had increased expression of thermogenic proteins (UCP1 and CIDEA), which favors the increase of energy expenditure, improvement of dyslipidemia due to increased fecal excretion of lipids, and reduction of de novo lipogenesis enzymes.
A study with ovariectomized rats indicated a reduction in UCP1 expression in brown adipose tissue and decrease in UCP2 expression in white adipose tissue, which may be associated with reduced energy expenditure and consequent increase in body mass (Pedersen et al, 2001).
In [NOV.sup.-/-] obese mice, there is a reduction in body weight, a decrease in expression of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, and increase in the levels of PGC-1[alpha] and UCP1. In our obese mouse model, increased levels of HO-1 led to a concomitant reduction in NOV mRNA, as inflammation and markers of fibrosis to the levels of lean animals.

Although UCP1 is primarily expressed in brown adipose, UCP2 is expressed across a wide variety of tissues, and expression of UCP3 appears to be limited to skeletal muscle and the heart [130].
Besides, our results also indicated that GPR43 expression in the differentiated brown adipocytes was much less (around 10-fold lower) than that in mature 3T3L1 cells (white adipocytes cell line) while the levels of UCP1 were significantly higher in immortalized brown adipocytes (Figures 1(b) and 1(c)), showing that the brown adipocyte precursor cells are successfully differentiated.
Uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) has been identified as a biological landmark of BAT that mediates nonshivering thermogenesis.
