Ungeny

 

a city (since 1940) under republic jurisdiction and the administrative center of Ungeny Raion, Moldavian SSR. Ungeny is situated on the left bank of the Prut River, on the Rumanian border. The city is a railroad junction for lines to Bel’tsy-Slobodzeia, Kishinev, and Iaşi (Rumania). Ungeny has a meat-packing plant, a biochemicals plant, a cannery, a butter factory, a winery, a decorative-ceramics factory, and other factories. Reinforced concrete products are also manufactured in the city. An ethnographic museum is located in Ungeny.
