Union of Classes
(Unión des Clases), the first large-scale Spanish organization of workers of various trades. Founded in Barcelona in 1854, the union consisted of the principal organizations of textile workers of Catalonia. A government declaration of June 2, 1855, to disband the Union of Classes led to the first general political strike.
