Unit on Duty

 

a subunit appointed in a garrison or within a military unit to intensify guard duty or to be on hand for an urgent call in case of a fire, natural calamity, or accident. In large garrisons several units on duty may be appointed. In combat weapons—machine guns, artillery guns, mortars—can be detached, as well as units on duty.
